Mady Gorges, née en 1962 à Luxembourg, est peintre, graphiste et a enseigné l'art pendant de nombreuses années. Enfant déjà, elle passait des heures avec des pinceaux, des crayons et du papier.
De 1986 à 1990, elle a étudié le design de communication à Wiesbaden. Mais sa carrière professionnelle ne s'est pas déroulée comme prévu. Peu après ses études, elle a accepté un poste d'enseignante d'art à l'école primaire de sa ville natale. Ce qui ne devait être au départ qu'une activité temporaire s'est ensuite transformé en mission de toute une vie. Au fil des années, elle a suivi d'autres formations, notamment des études d'art-thérapie.
C'est avec beaucoup d'enthousiasme et d'engagement qu'elle a transmis aux enfants sa propre joie de peindre. Des cours pour adultes étaient également à son programme.
En plus de son travail, elle a trouvé le temps nécessaire pour travailler sur ses propres tableaux et idées. Elle a ainsi pu se présenter au public avec des expositions individuelles et collectives.
Elle trouve son inspiration non seulement dans les échanges avec sa famille et ses amis, mais aussi avec les nombreuses personnes qu'elle rencontre à travers son art. Ses collègues artistes, qu'elle a rejoints à ViArt à Vianden, en font également partie.
À propos de ses tableaux : depuis 2009, l'artiste se consacre aux petites photos en noir et blanc. Ses images grand format sont basées sur l'idée de réinterpréter les anciennes photographies en noir et blanc et de les présenter sous un nouveau jour. Avec ses travaux, elle tente de créer un lien entre le passé et le présent. Ses œuvres sont un hommage à la vie et visent à rappeler que, malgré les défis et les crises, il y a toujours des moments de bonheur et de communion. Et comme le disait déjà Dostoïevski avec justesse : « Sachez qu’il n’y a rien de plus noble, de plus fort, de plus sain et de plus utile dans la vie qu’un bon souvenir, surtout quand il provient du jeune âge, de la maison parentale ». , ses images veulent raviver cette force.
Le terme « Ablack », auquel les images sont associées, est ambigu. D'une part, « Ablack » fait référence à l'œil qui regarde, et désigne ici le photographe qui a capturé ce moment. D'autre part, « Ablack » signifie également « instant ». Les photos parlent de convivialité, de courage, de fierté, d'amitié et d'amour. Et c'est précisément ces moments et ces valeurs, que le photographe a saisis à l'époque, que l'artiste veut nous faire découvrir aujourd'hui à travers ses tableaux.
Les images sont peintes à l'acrylique. De loin, elles ressemblent à des photos, mais plus on s'en approche, plus elles deviennent abstraites. Un pont entre l'ancien et le moderne, entre le passé et le présent.
Il en va de même pour ses tableaux en couleur. Mais ce sont surtout les couleurs fanées des premières photographies en couleur qui ont séduit l'artiste. Ici, elle prend la décision de représenter les couleurs telles qu'elles apparaissent sur les photos originales. Parfois, ces couleurs sont encore renforcées, ce qui confère aux images une qualité intemporelle.
Pour ses portraits surdimensionnés, elle applique la règle « moins c’est plus ». L'artiste se réfère à la règle d'or et à l'essentiel qui caractérise une personne. Ici aussi, elle reste fidèle à la représentation en noir et blanc, tandis que seuls les formats changent.
Mais qu'il s'agisse des histoires d'autrefois, des premières photos en couleur ou des portraits, il ne s'agit jamais pour l'artiste de jeter un regard nostalgique sur le passé. Il s'agit plutôt pour elle de :
"D'où viens-je ? Qui suis-je ? Où vais-je?... ou mieux encore, comment ?

Mady Gorges, geboren 1962 in Luxemburg, ist Malerin, Grafikerin und unterrichtete lange Jahre Kunst. Schon als Kind verbrachte sie Stunden mit Pinsel, Stiften und Papier.
Von 1986-1990 studierte sie Kommunikationsdesign in Wiesbaden. Doch ihre berufliche Laufbahn sollte anders verlaufen als geplant. Kurz nach ihrem Studium übernahm sie eine Stelle als Kunstlehrerin an der Grundschule in ihrem Heimatort. Was zuerst nur vorübergehend sein sollte, entwickelte sich dann doch zu ihrer Lebensaufgabe. Im Laufe der Jahre kamen weitere Fortbildungen hinzu, unter anderem ein Studium in Kunsttherapie.
Ihre eigene Freude an der Malerei hat sie mit viel Begeisterung und Engagement an die Kinder weitergegeben. Kurse für Erwachsene standen ebenfalls auf ihrem Programm.
Neben Ihrer Arbeit fand sie aber auch die nötige Zeit, an eigenen Bildern und Ideen zu arbeiten. Und somit konnte sie mit Einzel-und Gruppenausstellungen an die Öffentlichkeit treten.
Ihre Inspirationen findet sie nicht nur im Austausch mit Familie und Freunden, sondern auch mit den vielen Menschen, denen sie durch ihre Kunst begegnet. Dazu gehören auch ihre Künstlerkollegen, denen sie sich bei ViArt in Vianden angeschlossen hat.
Zu ihren Bildern: Seit 2009 widmet sich die Künstlerin den kleinen schwarz-weiβ Fotos. Ihre groβformatigen Bilder basieren auf der Idee, die alten schwarz-weiβen Fotografien neu zu interpretieren und in ein neues Licht zu rücken. Mit ihren Arbeiten versucht sie, eine Verbindung zwischen Vergangenheit und Gegenwart herzustellen. Ihre Werke sind eine Hommage an das Leben und sollen daran erinnern, dass es trotz Herausforderungen und Krisen stets Momente des Glücks und der Gemeinschaft gibt. Und wie es bereits Dostojewski treffend formulierte: “Wisst, daβ es nichts gibt, das höher, stärker, gesünder und für das ganze Leben wertvoller und nützlicher ist als eine gute Erinnerung aus der Kindheit, aus dem Elternhause.” , so wollen ihre Bilder diese Kraft neu beleben.
Der Begriff “Ablack”, dem die Bilder zugeordnet sind, ist zweideutig. Zum einen verweist “Ablack” auf das Auge, das blickt, wobei hier der Fotografierende gemeint ist, der diesen Moment eingefangen hat. Zum anderen bedeutet “Ablack” jedoch auch “Augenblick”. Die Bilder erzählen von Geselligkeit, Mut, Stolz, Freundschaft und Liebe. Und genau diese Momente und Werte, die der Fotografierende damals festhielt, will die Künstlerin uns heute mit ihren Bildern näher bringen.
Die Bilder sind in Acryl gemalt. Von weitem sehen sie aus wie Fotos, doch je mehr man sich ihnen nähert, desto abstrakter werden sie. Eine Brücke zwischen alt und modern, zwischen damals und heute.
Bei ihren farbigen Bildern verhält es sich ähnlich. Doch es sind hier vor allem die verblassten Farben der ersten Farbfotografien, die es der Künstlerin angetan haben. Hier trifft sie die Entscheidung, die Farben so darzustellen, wie sie auf den originalen Fotos zu sehen sind. Manchmal werden diese Farben noch verstärkt, was den Bildern eine zeitlose Qualität verleiht.
Bei ihren überdimensionalen Porträts gilt für sie: “Je weniger, umso mehr”. Dabei bezieht sich die Künstlerin auf den goldenen Schnitt und das Wesentliche, das einen Menschen charakterisiert. Auch hier bleibt sie der schwarz-weiβen Darstellung treu, während nur die Formate ändern.
Doch seien es die Geschichten von damals, die ersten Farbfotos oder die Porträts, es geht der Künstlerin nie darum, nostalgisch in die Vergangenheit zu blicken. Es geht ihr vielmehr um : “Wo komme ich her? Wer bin ich? Wo will ich hin, oder besser noch- Wie?

Mady Gorges, born in Luxembourg in 1962, is a painter, graphic artist and taught art for many years. Even as a child, she spent hours with brushes, pencils and paper.

And it is precisely these moments and values that the photographer captured back then that the artist wants to bring us closer to today with her paintings.
The paintings are painted in acrylic. From a distance, they look like photographs, but the closer you get to them, the more abstract they become. A bridge between old and modern, between then and now.
For her coloured pantings, it is similar. But here, it is mainly the faded colours of the first colour photographs that have captivated the artist. She decides to represent the colours as they appear in the original photos. Sometimes these colours are intensified, giving the paintings a timeless quality.
For her oversized portraits, she applies the following principle: ‘The less, the more’. The artist refers to the golden ratio and the essentials that characterise a person. Here, too, she remains true to the black-and-white depiction, while only the formats change.
But whether it’s the stories from back then, the first colour photos or the portraits, the artist is never about looking nostalgically into the past. It is more about asking: "Where do I come from? Who am I? Where do I want to go, or better still - how?”
